Zeitprisma is an interactive image and text collage generated in real time. Archive material from the Kinemathek Karlsruhe e.V. is presented in constantly changing constellations. The work was conceived for the PhonoLuxMaschine, a platform for media art projects in the foyer of the Kinemathek Karlsruhe, to mark the 50th anniversary of the organisation and represents five decades of local film culture work and film history.
Which films have been shown at the Kinemathek over the last 50 years? In what social, political, artistic and historical contexts were they presented? And how did the cinema itself fare? With the help of a touch-sensitive screen, visitors to the foyer can influence the compilation. For example, certain periods in history can be selected on a timeline or individual facets can be enlarged to find out more about their content.
The original idea of presenting the archive material interactively came from members of the Kinemathek Karlsruhe. For this purpose, over 1600 documents were digitised in a complex process. The Karlsruhe media artist Nic Eßer then developed, designed and realised Zeitprisma in close collaboration with all those involved.
