Search out and modernize – under this motto, the artist collective Francis Karat went into the digital archive of the Badisches Landesmuseum and discovered a stack of postcards from the Black Forest.
The postcards are then set in motion with image-to-video AI tools, and a sound design is composed between atmo and noise and between shellac and tape. A unique work of art is created from old and new.
As a basis for videographic interpretations, the cards are digitalized, captured on displays in a loop and “put back” in a postcard stand reminiscent of an advertising pillar. Finally, the digital version is passed on to an artificial intelligence for interpretation via the invitation to the Datalab.
