Pipilotti Rist is one of the most important video artists of our time. Born in Grabs, Switzerland, in 1962, she studied illustration and photography at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna between 1982 and 1986.
Her 1-channel video I’m not a girl that misses much caused an international sensation in her final year: With her upper body exposed, she dances to Happiness is a warm gun by the Beatles. Music is still her key creative tool today. In addition to radical close-ups, shifted camera angles and digital post-processing to create sensual, colourful image illusions, her work aesthetic is characterised by rhythm.
Pipilotti Rist lives and works in Zurich.
