Le Cadeau
Film screening [FR, AR] with subtitles [EN], 48 min
followed by a discussion with director Myriam Van Imschoot [EN]

Le Cadeau (Brussels, 2018) revolves around the four portraits of Malika, Anissa, Fatiha and Sarah, who are all part of the youyou Group. Through song, demonstrations and stories they speak about their relation to their voice, and more in particular to the ‘youyou’ or (in arabic) ‘the zaghareed’, a trill that originally stems from African and Middle-Eastern countries and is used by women to expresses joy or other intense emotions. This film follows the paths of migration and diaspora, the lines of desire and revolt and most of all solidarity.

Anissa Rouas, Vanessa Paloma Elbaz and Shira Eviatar share personal relations to Moroccan blessing practices. In this radio broadcast they talk about their respective artistic and academic research of blessings. The conversation will cross between Jewish and Muslim healing practices and tune into female genealogies of blessers. Sounding, singing, and whispering, they activate the sonic power of the blessing – emitting waves of ancient care from the Kunstverein and into the ether.

Choreographies of Listening
Wokshop led by Netta Weiser [EN]
at the Kunstverein and from there into the public space of the city

This workshop explores the somatic, performative, and political implications of collective listening. How can the act of listening become a performative mode? How can the transitions between looking-at and listening-to affect our ecologies of attention and being in the world? We shall practice a selection of Embodied Listening scores inspired by US-American feminist composer Pauline Oliveros, as well as listening practices deriving from the artistic research project Radio-Choreography.
The workshop is in cooperation with HfG Karlsruhe and open for participation for all; no previous experience needed.

Admission to all events is free!

Radio-Choreography: Acts of Transmission is part of this year’s media art exhibition Media art is here and was supported by the Project Funding Program for Media Art of the UNESCO City of Media Arts Karlsruhe and by Artis, New York.
