Art and culture are mirrors of our society and our times. The climate crisis, wars, political unrest and inflation have determined our present for years, but how are these circumstances expressed in current artistic and cultural production? This is the theme of the PRESENT TENSE symposium in the form of panels, lectures and artistic workshops.
The event of the Kunstbüro der Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg will take place at two locations in Karlsruhe, the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design and the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe. Artists, curators and other cultural experts will discuss possible (future) perspectives for the art field.
“Which roles within society can and must art and its producers embrace in a radically changing world? How can art and cultural institutions become venues of active social transformation?” These and many other questions will be addressed in contributions by Gin Bahc, Sascia Bailer, Constanze Fischbeck, Sina Hensel, Alistair Hudson, Anne Duk Hee Jordan, Valentina Karga, Matriarchale Volksküche, Jacob Ott and Dorothee Richter from October 26 to 28.
Participation in all events of the symposium is free of charge. For the workshops, please register by Sunday, October 15 at the latest.
