In the foyer of the Kinemathek Karlsruhe, where cinema painters used to apply large-scale paintings to advertise the cinema hits of the time, the PhonoLuxMaschine has been located since 2020. Two projectors are synchronized by means of a projection mapping. This allows various light effects to be generated, which also shine through the glass façade of the Kinemathek onto the forecourt in the arcade courtyard.
As a presentation platform for media art works, the PhonoLuxMaschine enables a variety of uses. In addition to sound and video installations, the “machine” can also broadcast lectures, films or concerts.
The PhonoLuxMaschine was supported by the UNESCO City of Media Arts Karlsruhe 2020 project support program for media art and has since then shown the works of Holger Förterer Lichtfragment and Didi Müller Reflection of the Projection – Ein Kontemplationsraum as part of the Seasons of Media Arts Festival.
