Since 2019, the team from Kino im Blauen Salon has been organising an open air cinema at the University of Art and Design every summer. This year, film fans can once again gather on the green meadow in front of the HfG and enjoy the warm June nights. In addition to exciting films, there is a varied supporting programme, drinks, snacks, film puzzles and competitions.

The Kino im Blauen Salon is the student cinema of the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG). Since 2017, it has been run by students who take care of the entire organisation on a voluntary basis. From film programming to procuring film licences and ordering film prints to technology and projection, everything is done together. The cinema is characterised by its screenings of classic 35mm films and offers a handmade alternative to conventional cinemas. This year, the festival is taking place for the fifth time and presents a special selection of film classics, cult films and forgotten gems from international archives and the HfG collection.

A highlight of the festival is the supporting programme, which starts long before the film begins. From 8 p.m., the bar and food team will cater for your well-being with drinks, snacks, freshly grilled food, popcorn, nachos and much more. The culinary offerings will be accompanied by a DJ team that will get visitors in the mood for the film. As soon as dusk falls, experimental short films are shown on the lawn, presented live by the 16mm film projectionist, often accompanied by the DJ team.
