From February 11 to 16, 2023, under the direction of the renowned artist and HfG professor Michael Bielicky ten students of the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) will show excerpts from their current work in the context of a temporary exhibition. Every evening from 6 p.m., nine video artworks will be shown on the large outdoor screen and in the foyer of the Neues Entree.
The different approaches of the young artists reflect their very different personal experiences and refer to complex social processes, such as the relationship between analogue and virtual space, the loss of natural spaces, and the necessary production of new materials such as bioplastics. Everyday situations are also depicted in the video works with humour, which reflect on the students’ encounters and experiences in the city of Karlsruhe due to their international background.
Exhibitions in public space have a long tradition at the HfG: since 2007, students have been presenting their works under the label Go Public! in the public context of Karlsruhe, such as the Karlsruhe main train station, the Natural History Museum, the monastery ruins of Bad Frauenalb and in the forest near Schöllbronn. Since 2021, the UNESCO City of Media Arts Karlsruhe has supported this ambitious media art project, which impressively staged Karlsruhe’s market square in 2022 with various projections on prominent building facades.
The art event will start on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 6 p.m. on Theaterplatz. Admission is free.
Participating artists: Éva B. Csonka und Hugo Almeida Pinho, Fedor/Becky, Anna-Lina Helsen, László Kőrösi, Pavel Polenz, Alicia Luna Ripp, Anastasia Wick, NJ Eunchae Won und Rui Zhang.
Go Public! is a project of the HfG Karlsruhe in cooperation with UNESCO City of Media Arts Karlsruhe.
With the kind support of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe.
