Under the motto Shaping the Future – Research | Teaching | Transfer, the 200th anniversary of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology presents a unique opportunity to honor the institution’s successes and achievements. This milestone allows for both a retrospective look at the past and a moment of pride in what has been accomplished.

Throughout the anniversary year, the focus will not only be on the achievements and successes of the past 200 years and the present but also on looking ahead to the future. Events, lectures, dialogue formats, workshops, and an exhibition will provide opportunities to share and celebrate the institution’s knowledge and expertise with the scientific community, industry, and society.

Anniversary Exhibition: 200 years of KIT – 100 objects. Parts of the whole. Selected objects from the history of KIT.
April 12 – October 18, 2025

The exhibition on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of KIT’s foundation presents its history in 100 objects. This selection conveys the identity of KIT based on the development of its predecessor institutions. In the loose selection of exhibits, it becomes clear how KIT’s current university mission evolved from the teaching of technology that began in 1825, and how large-scale research developed from the work begun in 1956 to develop a new energy source. The individual objects initially speak for themselves, without being forced into any particular order. Just browsing through them reveals such diverse aspects as the development of the scientific subject area, the teaching activities and also some details of everyday life in one of the largest and oldest scientific institutions in Germany.

The opening ceremony will take place on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe (ZKM).
