Following the successful realisation of two international and collaborative artworks in 2020 and 2021, the City to City project was continued in 2023 between Karlsruhe and Cali, Colombia.
Under the curatorial guidance of Beatrice Zaidenberg, an artist tandem was successfully realised with Lucía Diegó from Cali and Desiree Kabis from Karlsruhe, who were both selected for the project in separate calls for entries. In August 2023, the first face-to-face meeting of the participating artists from the two media art cities took place in Karlsruhe. For around two weeks, the two artists had the opportunity to develop a joint concept through direct dialogue and visits to the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe and the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Light Festival.
This was followed by the realisation in digital exchange. To mark the occasion, the co-produced artwork was ceremoniously unveiled during the annual Media Arts Cluster meeting in Cali. On November 2, 2023, My name is Sameana saman was presented in the gardens of the Museo La Tertulia in the presence of the members of the Media Arts Cluster and an international audience of experts and artists.
The work integrates the saman tree at the site in Cali and encourages reflection on queerness and the connection between people and nature. A realisation of the work for Karlsruhe is planned for summer 2024.
