5. March 2025

The UNESCO City of Media Arts Karlsruhe is announcing its Project Funding Program for Media Art for the sixth time. A total of 100,000 euros is available to realise media art projects in outdoor spaces. The funding is aimed at artists, cultural and media professionals as well as initiatives and institutions with their main place of residence or work in Baden-Württemberg. The aim is to promote the regional strength of the media art scene, to intensify the exchange between different creative communities and to enable innovative, media art projects.

The programme also supports projects that serve to intensify international networking, exchange and cooperation within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in the field of media art.

“With the current call for entries, we want to enable media art developments that appeal to a broad audience in public outdoor spaces. In conjunction with the Schlosslichtspiele, Karlsruhe will – as in previous years – become a lively place of exchange and a truly tangible city of media art,” says Dr Dominika Szope, Head of the Department of Cultural Affairs.

The selected projects will be presented in summer 2026 in the city of Karlsruhe as part of the Media art is here exhibition. The application deadline is May 15, 2025.

In 2019, Karlsruhe was the first and so far only city in Germany to be awarded the title ‘Creative City of Media Arts’ by UNESCO and was included in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN). The global network was founded in 2004 to promote cooperation with and between cities that have identified creativity and culture as a strategic factor for building sustainable urban societies.
