UNESCO City of Media Arts funds media art and international network projects in Karlsruhe
For the fourth time the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Karlsruhe invites applications for the project funding program for media arts 2023. Creators of art and culture from Karlsruhe can apply for funding until September 29, 2023.
The funds are dedicated to artistic visions designed for outdoor spaces that reflect on contemporary and future social challenges utilizing the resources and tools of media art and which shed light on new points of view, technologies, or forms of media within the urban environment, and which represent a valuable asset in the wide field of media arts in Karlsruhe.
The current call for funding supports innovative, cooperative and interdisciplinary media art productions on a local level, as well as projects that serve the intensification of international networking, exchanges and cooperation within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in the field of media art.
Since 2020, the City of Karlsruhe enables local artists, creators in culture and the media, and initiatives and institutions to develop and realize projects in the field of media art, for which in 2023 it is providing a budget of 100,000 Euro. Students with corresponding project ideas as well as scientific and creative business institutions in Karlsruhe are also invited to participate in the call for proposals.
The successful projects will be selected by an expert panel consisting of representatives of the Baden Art Association, the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG), the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Karlsruhe, the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe, and the ZKM Karlsruhe that is chaired by the head of the Cultural Office Dominika Szope. The announcement of the results is planned for early November 2023.
On Tuesday, July 4, 2023, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., the Department of Cultural Affairs will offer a digital Q&A session on the current project funding program and how to apply. Registrations for this, as well as all information on the online application and the conditions of participation, are available at: https://www.karlsruhe.de/stadt-rathaus/so-ist-karlsruhe/unesco-city-of-media-arts.
In 2019, the City of Karlsruhe was designated a UNESCO City of Media Arts and it is a member of the global UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN). As a well-connected and networked city of media arts, Karlsruhe supports the local media art scene not only with respect to project funding, but also with presentations and events, plus joint ventures on an international basis.
