100 international cities attended the XIV Annual Conference of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in Brazil

25. August 2022

From 18 to 22 July 2022, the city of Santos in Brazil hosted the XIV Annual Conference of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN). Following a two-year postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Annual Conference brought together around 220 participants from 100 Creative Cities worldwide, including Karlsruhe.

Karlsruhe presented itself during the annual conference for the first time in this context as a new member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network Media Arts Cluster. The adapted form of the ZKM exhibition BioMedien, which was on display at the Centre des Arts in Enghien-les-Bains from May to July 2022, as well as the cooperation project City to City were also presented at the annual conference in Brazil.

Under the theme “Creativity, Path to Equality”, the Conference underlined the crucial role of culture and creativity as a driving force for building inclusive cities, and particularly its role in addressing the deepening inequalities exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
