Strudel – Live Coding Workshop

10. June 2023

Sounds from recursive processes, droning artifacts and trembling oscillators. In May, iterative ßpace, a concert and meetup event featuring algorithmic music beyond algoraves, was hosted by the Karlsruhe TOPLAP community. To match this, a workshop to learn live coding practice now follows.

Live coding is an artistic practice in which you write code in real time to make music, generate graphics, weave, among other things. Live coding makes programming an integral part of a running program.

What is Strudel?

Strudel is a version of Tidal Cycles developed in JavaScript and was initiated in 2022 by Alex McLean and Felix Roos. Tidal Cycles, also known as Tidal, is a computer language for algorithmic patterns. Although it is mostly used for generating music, it can be used for any kind of activity in which patterns play a role.
